Basketball Recap: Woodland Comes Up Short

Woodland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 62-54 to the Pioneer Patriots. If the Wolves were looking for revenge after losing 66-64 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leading Pioneer to victory were Melvir Pooni and Emiliano Romero. Pooni almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards, while Romero went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. The contest was Pooni's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Macias, who posted eight points and 12 rebounds.

Woodland's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Woodland will take on Wheatland in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pioneer, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-55 victory against Rio Linda on the 16th.
