Basketball Recap: Smithsburg Takes a Loss

Smithsburg was the 75-65 winner over Liberty when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Smithsburg Leopards had to suffer through a 76-32 loss at the hands of the Liberty Lions. While losing is never fun, the Leopards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Lions are ranked 100th).

This is the second loss in a row for Smithsburg and nudges their season record down to 8-13. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 11-10 Brunswick (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.7% over those games). As for Liberty, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Smithsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Liberty, they will take on Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Liberty's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
