Basketball Recap: Ford Gilliam's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Reed over Chico

Reed was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 58-44 to the Chico Panthers.

Reed's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ford Gilliam, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Nishaan Bajwa, who went 5 of 9 en route to 13 points.

Chico's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaden Neugebauer led the charge by going 5 of 6 on his way to 11 points and five steals. Those 11 points gave Neugebauer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Vincent Boatwright, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 17 rebounds.

Reed's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Chico, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.

Reed wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-51 defeat against Natomas on the 13th. As for Chico, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-41 win against Vista del Lago on the 13th.
