Basketball Recap: North Fork Drops Highest Score of Season Against Meeker

North Fork fought the good fight in their overtime game against Meeker on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Meeker Cowboys by a score of 76-73. One positive for the Miners, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the defeat, North Fork saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alyssa Lovelace shot 43% from the field en route to 17 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Lovelace has become a key player for North Fork: the team is 4-2 when she posts at least 15 points, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Meri Hollembeak, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, North Fork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Rylee Sullivan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Meeker, dropping a double-double with 32 points and ten boards. Sullivan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Castillo, who went 7-for-17 to rack up 19 points.

North Fork's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Meeker, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-11.

North Fork wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-43 win against Peyton on the 28th. As for Meeker, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-47 defeat against De Beque on the 28th.
