Softball Recap: Normal West Find Success

The third road game was the charm for Normal West, as they earned their first away win of the season. They had just enough and edged out the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs 2-1 on Thursday.

Kate McGowan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on McKinley Pate, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season.

The victory got Normal West back to even at 4-4. As for Mahomet-Seymour, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normal West will challenge Rochester at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Mahomet-Seymour, they will square off against Effingham at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hearts have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
