Basketball Game Preview: Shining Light Baptist Academy Sharks vs. Victory Christian Cardinals

The Shining Light Baptist Academy Sharks will head out on the road to challenge the Victory Christian Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Shining Light Baptist Academy turned things around against Victory Christian Academy on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 61-47 win over the Patriots. The Sharks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Shining Light Baptist Academy found their leader in sophomore Chelsea Murray, who went 14 of 30 en route to 29 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Murray has scored all season. Jemma Parker was another key player, putting up ten points.

Meanwhile, Victory Christian humbled Shining Rock Classical Academy with a 70-11 victory. That 59 point margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.

Shining Light Baptist Academy better keep an eye on Brooke Sanders. She was instrumental in Victory Christian's win, going 8 for 14 on her way to 16 points and four steals. Sanders is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marissa Sloan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Victory Christian and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for Shining Light Baptist Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Shining Light Baptist Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Victory Christian in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 39-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shining Light Baptist Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
