Softball Recap: Ford Comes Up Short

Ford and Canton squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Ford had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent loss being a 5-2 defeat on Saturday.

Payton Perez spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bailey McAlpin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lillian Barraza, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.

Ford moved to 17-9 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Canton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7-2 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Canton beat Ford by a score of 5-2 later that day.
