Softball Recap: Mt. Zion Has No Trouble Against Effingham

Mt. Zion barely beat Effingham the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Braves were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Hearts on Tuesday. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Hearts recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Nikki Ellegood made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savannah Beiler, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Chloe Williams was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Mt. Zion kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.

Mt. Zion's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Effingham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Mt. Zion will be playing in front of their home fans against Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Effingham, they will head out on the road to face off against Marshall at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Hearts surely won't give up without a fight.
