The Redding Christian Lions will take on the Portola Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Redding Christian's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Portola has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
If Redding Christian beats Portola with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Redding Christian really took it to Etna for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Redding Christian, who have now won seven games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Redding Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wyatt Shaw led the charge by throwing for 196 yards and four TDs while completing 91.7% of his passes. What's more, Shaw racked up 170.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Levi Putnam helped Shaw out on the ground, rushing for 79 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries.
Redding Christian didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Etna to a completion percentage of just 26.7%. The team can thank Putnam for the heroic effort on defense: he. Redding Christian hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.73 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Redding Christian's defense also made the game a nightmare for Carter Isbell, racking up seven sacks. Caden Russo led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by himself. He has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last seven times he's played.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Portola duked it out with Maxwell on Friday. The Tigers took a blow against the Panthers, falling 38-7.
Portola's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Redding Christian, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Redding Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Portola struggles in that department as they've been averaging 164.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Redding Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Portola in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 32-28 victory. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
