Softball Recap: Danvers Comes Up Short

Danvers fell victim to Marblehead and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Magicians by a score of 2-0. That makes it the first time this season the Falcons have let down their home crowd.

Skylar Coakley spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Danvers saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyla Moroney, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Danvers' defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Marblehead, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Danvers will head out to challenge Peabody Veterans Memorial at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Tanners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.22 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Marblehead, they will take on Masconomet Regional at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Magicians will need to watch out since the Chieftains have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
