Basketball Recap: Walnut Grove Find Success

Walnut Grove entered their tilt with Lovejoy on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 52-51 victory over the Lovejoy Leopards.

Walnut Grove was led to victory by Monta Ellis and Byron Scott. Ellis went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points, while Scott posted 11 points and five rebounds. That's the most rebounds Scott has posted since back in November. Parker Evanson was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Walnut Grove has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Lovejoy, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.

Walnut Grove and Lovejoy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Walnut Grove (ranked 78th) will meet Sherman (ranked 394th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lovejoy (ranked 96th) will meet McKinney North (ranked 446th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
