Baseball Recap: Oxford Extends Winning Streak to Five

Oxford had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Oakland on Wednesday. Oxford put the hurt on Oakland with a sharp 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Colton Parten tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Oxford let Hudson Gilman and Nick Richardson run wild. Gilman scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Richardson scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Richardson has posted since back in February. Reid Maniscalco was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

The win (which was Oxford's fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Oakland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9-1 record this season.

Oxford and Oakland should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. Oxford will take on Sardis at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday up 184 places (10 vs. 194). Meanwhile, Oakland (ranked 155th) will meet Gulliver Prep (ranked 476th) at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
