Basketball Game Preview: Belle Fourche Broncs vs. Mahpiya Luta Crusaders

Belle Fourche is 0-9 against Mahpiya Luta since January of 2015 but things could change on Saturday. The Belle Fourche Broncs will head out on the road to take on the Mahpiya Luta Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Belle Fourche is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 56 points on Saturday, they were much more limited against Hill City on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 58-29 loss at the hands of the Rangers. While losing is never fun, the Broncs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Rangers are ranked 25th).

Meanwhile, Mahpiya Luta took a blow against Spearfish on Tuesday, falling 70-40. The defeat continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost three in a row.

Belle Fourche's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Mahpiya Luta, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Belle Fourche couldn't quite finish off Mahpiya Luta in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 57-54. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mahpiya Luta's Caden Pourier, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards.
