Baseball Recap: Lakes Comes Up Short

Lakes had lost eight straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it nine. They lost 10-2 to the North Thurston Rams. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 9-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Aaron Miller made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

As for North Thurston, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On North Thurston's side, Grady Wright and Ethan Shaefer made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Wright tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Shaefer struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Wright has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wright earned two runs and two stolen bases, while Shaefer went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Shaefer has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kole French, who went 2-for-3 with three runs. Tucker Kemph was another key player, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

While Lakes had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
