Basketball Recap: Southwest Legacy Triumphs

Southwest came into Friday's game looking for another win against Southwest Legacy, but Garnelle Zor wouldn't allow it. The Southwest Legacy Titans secured a 56-50 W over the Southwest Dragons on Friday thanks in part to Zor, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Southwest Legacy's points.

Another player making a difference was Danica Thurman, who posted eight points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (four).

Southwest's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Geanna Martinez, who earned 14 points in addition to eight boards and four steals, and Genaya Santos, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 16 points. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Southwest Legacy's record now sits at 9-23. As for Southwest, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-23 record this season.

Southwest Legacy and Southwest could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Southwest Legacy (ranked 926th) will meet Jay (ranked 237th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Southwest will face off against McCollum at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 819 places (908 vs. 89).
