Basketball Game Preview: Oak Grove Grizzlies vs. Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans

The Oak Grove Grizzlies and the Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans will round out the year against one another at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Oak Grove beat Southwest Guilford 49-43. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.

Oak Grove can attribute much of their success to Kalin Favreau, who went 6 of 13 en route to 16 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cora Hadley, who posted nine points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, Wesleyan Christian Academy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.9 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They came out on top against the War Eagles by a score of 54-45. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the War Eagles are ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oak Grove's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6. As for Wesleyan Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.

Oak Grove came up short against Wesleyan Christian Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 50-43. Can Oak Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
