Softball Recap: Hartford Drops Season-High Score on Springfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hartford). They were the clear victors by a 23-3 margin over the Springfield Cosmos on Thursday. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Cosmos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Serenitee Martel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emmy Whitney was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and two RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sylvia Johnson, who went 4-for-5 with six RBI and four runs.

Hartford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Hartford's record now sits at 9-4. As for Springfield, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Hartford has already played their next match, an 18-5 win against White River Valley on the 30th. Springfield has also already played their next game (against Bellows Falls), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
