Softball Recap: Elizabethtown Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Elizabethtown duked it out with Mercy on Monday. The Panthers fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 2-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Panthers haven't been shut out since back in March.

Taytum Spiers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elizabethtown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Swift, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Elizabethtown and nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for Mercy, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-10.

Looking ahead, Elizabethtown will host John Hardin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mercy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bullitt East at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
