Baseball Game Preview: Douglas Byrd Eagles vs. Gray's Creek Bears

Douglas Byrd hasn't had much luck against Gray's Creek recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Douglas Byrd Eagles will square off against the Gray's Creek Bears at 6:00 p.m.

Douglas Byrd is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 25th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against South View, falling 21-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gray's Creek). They blew past Seventy-First 19-1 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Mason Barnes made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits (and only one walk). Gray's Creek is 2-1 when Barnes allowsone or fewer hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Barnes was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other pitching news, Blake Fann looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Dalton Williams was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Grayson Hulen was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Gray's Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seventy-First only posted an OBP of .176.

The victory got Gray's Creek back to even at 3-3. As for Douglas Byrd, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Douglas Byrd suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Gray's Creek in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Douglas Byrd avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
