Basketball Recap: Campo Verde Comes Up Short

Campo Verde and Sunnyslope squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Campo Verde had to settle for second. They were dealt a 66-38 loss at the hands of the Sunnyslope Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Coyotes of the 64-43 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.

Sunnyslope got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rider Portela out in front who went 6-for-7 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance also gave Portela a new career-high in field goal percentage (86%). Another player making a difference was Kade Snyder, who made all 7 shots he took racking up 14 points and six boards.

Campo Verde has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season. As for Sunnyslope, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-8.

Campo Verde does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sunnyslope, they will square off against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sunnyslope is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.4 points per game this season.
