Football Recap: Simeon Shaw's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Holbrook over Scottsdale Preparatory Academy

After flying high against Window Rock last Friday, Holbrook came back down to earth. The Roadrunners took a 28-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans on Saturday. The Roadrunners were right on the edge of victory: they outscored the Spartans in the fourth quarter 8-0.

Holbrook's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Simeon Shaw, who picked up 201 receiving yards and three scores. Shaw's longest reception was for an incredible 76 yards. Holbrook also got a significant boost from Matthias Montijo, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 116 yards.

Holbrook didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Shaw.

It was another big night for Will Ryken, who rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy. With that strong performance, Ryken is now averaging an impressive 2.2 rushing touchdowns per game.

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 3-2. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-3.

Coming up, Holbrook will welcome Pinon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 12.8 points per game this season, so the Roadrunners' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Willcox at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cowboys will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
