The Wells Leopards will venture away from home to face off against the Carlin Railroaders at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Wells sitting on six straight wins and Carlin on four.
On Saturday, Wells got the win against Coleville by a conclusive 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won six matches by 13 runs or more so far this season.
Andreina Mercado was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Arabella Martinez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Wells was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coleville only posted a batting average of .154.
Meanwhile, Carlin made easy work of Smith Valley on Friday and carried off a 16-1 victory. The Railroaders are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the seventh contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Joey Drown looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Theralyn Flores was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Amelya Doxey was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Wells' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Carlin, their record is now 9-6.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wells has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .592. However, it's not like Carlin struggles in that department as they've averaged .644. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wells' way against Carlin when the teams last played back in March, as Wells made off with a 15-0 win. Will the Leopards repeat their success, or do the Railroaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
