Volleyball Game Preview: Gaston Day Spartans vs. Westside Rams

The Gaston Day Spartans will face off against the Westside Rams at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Gaston Day beat Concord Academy 3-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Gaston Day walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the third set). The final score came out to 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19.

Ava Blanton and Kendyl Taylor were among the main playmakers for Gaston Day as the former had 12 digs and four assists and the latter had 27 kills, 27 digs, two blocks, and two aces. Taylor is crushing it when it comes to kills: she's had at least seven every time she's taken the court this season. Riley Fanis also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Meanwhile, Westside got the win against Laurens on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.

Westside never let Laurens on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-18.

Westside's win bumped their record up to 18-6-1. As for Gaston Day, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
