Basketball Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Arbor View Aggies

Basic is 0-3 against Arbor View since December of 2014 but things could change on Thursday. The Basic Wolves will take on the Arbor View Aggies in a tournament on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Basic turned things around against George Washington Prep on Saturday. They took down the Generals 59-44. That 15 point margin sets a new team best for the Wolves this season.

Basic found their leader in sophomore Kenny Williams, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven steals and five assists. With that strong performance, Williams is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of JaMari Cottingham, who posted 14 points along with seven boards and six steals.

Basic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Arbor View earned an 84-75 win over Clovis on Saturday. Given the Aggies' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Nevada, while the Cougars are ranked 397th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Basic's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Arbor View, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Basic took a serious blow against Arbor View in their previous meeting back in December of 2017, falling 76-45. Thankfully for Basic, Jarrod Burks (who went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven steals and six boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
