The Segerstrom Jaguars will head out to square off against the Aliso Niguel Wolverines at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Segerstrom took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Troy.
The team relied heavily on Alyssa Martinez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Aubrey Razo also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Martinez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Segerstrom kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Aliso Niguel had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with a 7-0 victory.
Alexa Manning was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, Tessa Cowsill was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lila An, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Segerstrom pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Aliso Niguel, their record now sits at 5-3-1.
Segerstrom's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. Segerstrom has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Aliso Niguel, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Segerstrom continue to outrun the ball?
