Preview: Sunlake Seahawks vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils
The Sunlake Seahawks just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
Sunlake suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. They took a serious blow against North Tampa Christian Academy, falling 83-37. While losing is never fun, Sunlake can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while North Tampa Christian Academy is ranked 25th).
Meanwhile, St. Petersburg scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with an 82-73 win over Northeast. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Sunlake's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8. As for St. Petersburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Sunlake came up short against St. Petersburg when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 85-72. Can Sunlake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
