Softball Game Preview: Orem Tigers vs. Spanish Fork Dons

Orem hasn't had much luck against Spanish Fork recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dons at 3:30 p.m. Orem is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.

Orem took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cedar Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Aviators 9-8 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Andlie Allen was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sadie Groneman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Orem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Spanish Fork couldn't beat Springville on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Dons came up short against the Red Devils, falling 17-7.

Lia Higginson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. McKenna Anderson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Orem's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Spanish Fork, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Orem might still be hurting after the 18-5 defeat they got from Spanish Fork in their previous meeting back in May of 2019. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
