Baseball Recap: Mansfield Christian Comes Up Short

Mansfield Christian had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-12 to make it 15. They lost 11-1 to the Genoa Christian Academy Lions. The Flames were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Mansfield Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Kalashnik, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Genoa Christian Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Genoa Christian Academy's side, they let Asa Fenstermaker and Vinny Messana run wild. Fenstermaker went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base, while Messana got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Fenstermaker has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooks Norman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Mansfield Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Western Reserve at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Genoa Christian Academy, they will head out to challenge Madison Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
