Softball Recap: Charles J. Colgan Beats Hylton for Their Sixth Straight Victory

While Charles J. Colgan's victory against Hylton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Sharks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. The one-run effort marked the Sharks' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Dorsey Grose's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Charles J. Colgan's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kayli Lamboy, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Kayla Boatwright also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

The victory (which was Charles J. Colgan's sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hylton, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Charles J. Colgan will square off against Woodbridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Sharks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hylton, they will challenge Gainesville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
