Basketball Recap: Rocky Ford Comes Up Short

Rocky Ford played a tough matchup on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Holly Wildcats 75-48. The Meloneers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-18.

When it comes to explaining why Rocky Ford lost, don't look at Isaiah Vazquez-Gallegos. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Vazquez-Gallegos is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. Joseph Vazquez-Gallegos also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Rocky Ford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Holly had a senior duo take command as Devin Eaton dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 boards and Truman King shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points King has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Coy King, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points and six boards.

Rocky Ford's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Holly, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Rocky Ford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-47 victory against Calhan on the 31st. As for Holly, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-48 loss against McClave on the 1st.
