Softball Recap: Kearns Cougars vs. Granger Lancers

Kearns won the last time they faced Granger, and things went their way on Thursday too. The Kearns Cougars walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Granger Lancers. The win made it back-to-back victories for Kearns.

Kallie Stocking made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Stocking has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Stocking was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Haylee Heaton was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rami Hasna, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

On Granger's side, Nautica Groat and Jaquelyn Kuntzsch stepped up to the plate in a big way. Groat scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Kuntzsch scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all two of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelia Naeata, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Kearns' win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Granger, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kearns will challenge Hillcrest at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Granger, they will head out on the road to take on Cottonwood at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
