Baseball Game Preview: Miller Grove Hornets vs. Leverett's Chapel Lions

The Miller Grove Hornets will head out to square off against the Leverett's Chapel Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Miller Grove knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Leverett's Chapel likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Miller Grove got the win against Avery by a conclusive 23-10. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Cage Hasten was a standout: he scored six runs and stole seven bases while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Miller Grove's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kindle Fisher, who scored five runs and stole nine bases while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances.

Miller Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Leverett's Chapel and Union Hill, and Leverett's Chapel kept the tradition alive. The Lions won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted since April 5, 2024.

Ethan Williams was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

Leverett's Chapel's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6-1. As for Miller Grove, their record now sits at 3-11.

Miller Grove came up short against Leverett's Chapel in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, falling 14-11. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
