Softball Game Preview: Tustin Tillers vs. Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies

Tustin hasn't had much luck against Godinez Fundamental recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tillers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 3:15 p.m. Tustin will be strutting in after a victory while Godinez Fundamental will be coming in after a defeat.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Tustin nor Santa Ana made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Tillers never let the Saints get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.

Not much got past Emery Diaz, who gave up just four hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Santa Ana off the board. Diaz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Samantha Reyes was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Godinez Fundamental couldn't beat Costa Mesa on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Grizzlies came up short against the Mustangs, falling 14-4.

Tustin's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Godinez Fundamental, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Tustin couldn't quite get it done against Godinez Fundamental in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 as they fell 9-5. Can the Tillers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
