Basketball Recap: Christ the King Crusaders vs. Corvian Community Cardinals
The Christ the King Crusaders lost against the Corvian Community Cardinals back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Christ the King received a tough blow as they fell 69-52 to the Cardinals. Christ the King has not had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Christ the King had strong showings from Marco Tampoya, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Parker Ryan, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 50% of Christ the King's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Corvian Community's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malachi McCutcheon led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Doug Quarles III, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 21 rebounds.
Christ the King dropped their record down to 7-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Corvian Community, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Christ the King will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Community School of Davidson is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Corvian Community, they will head out on the road to square off against the Raptor at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Island Charter will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Cardinals are ranked 89th).
