Basketball Game Preview: Gibbon Buffaloes vs. Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals

Gibbon hasn't had much luck against Doniphan-Trumbull recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Gibbon Buffaloes will head out on the road to challenge the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Gibbon managed to keep up with Loomis until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Gibbon was beaten by Loomis 60-33.

Despite the loss, Gibbon had strong showings from Kassandra Trevino, who posted 13 points and six steals, and Karsyn Grimes, who had seven points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Grimes a new career-high in blocks (two).

Even though they lost, Gibbon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Doniphan-Trumbull was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a blow against Ord, falling 66-39. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Chanticleers are ranked 98th).

Gibbon will have to keep a close watch on Charlee Richter and Logan Rainforth, a pair of players who had a big impact on Doniphan-Trumbull's prior game. Richter put up 15 points, while Rainforth earned 13 points. That was a full 38.5% of Doniphan-Trumbull's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Gibbon's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-16.

Gibbon ended up a good deal behind Doniphan-Trumbull in their previous matchup two weeks ago, losing 56-40. Can Gibbon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
