Zack Poff and Steve Montoya break down what happened over the weekend in high school football.The initial MaxPreps regional high school football computer rankings are back with no returning No. 1 teams from the 2015 season.
In the west, Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) is the top team while De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) finished on top last year.
In the southwest, Westlake (Austin, Texas) is the top team, replacing Katy (Texas). Meanwhile IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) replaces DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) in the south and St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) replaces Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) in the northeast. Colerain (Cincinnati) takes over for St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) in the midwest.
The regional rankings are based on the
MaxPreps National Football Computer Rankings, presented by the Army National Guard. For the purposes of these rankings, the country was broken down into five regions:
West: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Hawaii, Alaska, and Montana.
Southwest: Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Midwest: Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
Northeast: Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware and Vermont.
