Softball Recap: Richland Has No Trouble Against Hermiston

Richland came out on top against Hermiston on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Bombers were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Bombers, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ali Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Payton Chacon was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Julia Saueressig, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Richland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matchups.

Richland's record is now 15-1. As for Hermiston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Richland will look to defend their home field on Friday against Kennewick at 4:00 p.m. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Hermiston, they are taking a road trip to face off against Walla Walla at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.4 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
