Stivers School for the Arts suffers seventh straight loss on the road

The Stivers School for the Arts Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Belmont 65-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

When it comes to explaining why Stivers School for the Arts lost, one person who can't be blamed is Amaury Hawes. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Hawes scored 15 or more points. Gavin Wright was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.

Belmont got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Denzell Ogle out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ogle set a new season high mark in steals with four. Another player making a difference was Damarion Calahan, who scored 15 points along with five assists.

Stivers School for the Arts bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Belmont, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stivers School for the Arts' road trip will continue as they head out to face Hilliard Bradley at 3:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hilliard Bradley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Stivers School for the Arts in Ohio (Hilliard Bradley is ranked 260th, while Stivers School for the Arts is ranked 543rd). As for Belmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Ponitz Career Tech at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
