League recap: Central Valley Christian rises in state rank

Central Sequoia recap October 1, 2013

Central Valley Christian scaled the state rankings by moving to 325 from 379 this week, the biggest jump in Central Sequoia. The Cavaliers were able to move up by defeating Coalinga 29-6.

Exeter lost to Mission Oak 47-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adin Trujillo threw for 127 yards in the loss.

Joey Tobias was a key player and the best on defense this week as Exeter fell to the Hawks. The 5-foot-7 junior.

Marcus McMaryion threw for 375 yards and 7 touchdowns. He went 27-42 with 2 interceptions.

Macintyre Garbani was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 171 yards on 16 carries as Central Valley Christian lost to Porterville. Teammate Tony Dragt added to the ground attack by rushing for 63 yards.

Thanks to the talents of McMaryion and Michael Wright, the Emperors have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. McMaryion is tops in the league in passing with 1,020 yards, while Wright has rushed for 915 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Selma's Herman Avalos, with 311 yards on 11 catches.

Wright of the Dinuba is just 85 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 86 carries Wright has accumulated 915 yard this year.

Mason Hughes' team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,096 from 5,183. The advance stemmed from a 29-6 victory over the Horned Toads last week.
