Softball Recap: Shawnee Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Shawnee gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on the New Bremen Cardinals with a sharp 9-2 victory. The win was nothing new for the Indians as they're now sitting on three straight.

Riley Rhodes made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Lyla Rosas was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Taylor Lichty was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Shawnee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Shawnee pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for New Bremen, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.

Coming up, Shawnee will head out to challenge Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for New Bremen, they will host Tri-Village at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season.
