Baseball Recap: Ellington Takes a Loss

Ellington extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 15-7. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Coventry Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since June 8, 2025.

As for Coventry, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Coventry's part, Kyle Hecht made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Hecht has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Jack Siena and Dominic DeAngelis did most of the damage at the plate: Siena went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while DeAngelis got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Mather Spear was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Coming up, Ellington will take on Rocky Hill at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Coventry, they have already played their next contest, a 13-3 victory against Canton on the 28th.
