Basketball Recap: Cora Gardner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Escalante over Bryce Valley

Escalante lost against Bryce Valley back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Escalante Moquis took a 46-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bryce Valley Mustangs. The Moquis were up 17-2 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Escalante's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cora Gardner, who posted six points. Rylee Frei was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bryce Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cashae Tebbs, who earned 15 points along with six steals and five assists. Tebbs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Grace Leech, who went 5-for-11 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Escalante has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Bryce Valley, their record is now 7-14.

Escalante does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bryce Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 34-30 loss against Piute on the 15th.
