Baseball Recap: Pleasantville Takes a Loss

Pleasantville dropped their record down to 8-11 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-9 to the Atlantic Christian Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Greyhounds of the 11-6 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

As for Atlantic Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.

For Atlantic Christian's part, Ethan Costello made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Costello has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Atlantic Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Seth Phillips, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colton Carney, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Pleasantville will host Atlantic County Institute of Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Atlantic Christian, they are taking a road trip to take on King's Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
