Basketball Recap: Mountain Lake/Comfrey's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Mountain Lake/Comfrey can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They strolled past the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes with points to spare, taking the game 58-42. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mountain Lake/Comfrey also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bryce Nielsen dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave Nielsen a new career-high in rebounds. Dalton Dierks also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first rebound of the season.

Mountain Lake/Comfrey's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-11. As for Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Lake/Comfrey will venture away from home to square off against Windom at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, they will head out on the road to challenge Red Rock Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
