Baseball Game Preview: Peabody Veterans Memorial Tanners vs. Beverly Panthers

The Peabody Veterans Memorial Tanners are taking a road trip to take on the Beverly Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Peabody Veterans Memorial is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Peabody Veterans Memorial barely beat Somerville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tanners put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 13-2 victory on Thursday. The Tanners' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Beverly didn't have quite enough to beat Gloucester on Monday and fell 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Fishermen: they've now lost four in a row.

Graham Gavin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Callan McCay was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Mikey O'Leary also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Peabody Veterans Memorial's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Beverly, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Peabody Veterans Memorial beat Beverly 8-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tanners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
