Volleyball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Cabrillo's Winning Streak

After flying high against Santa Maria two weeks ago, Cabrillo came back down to earth. The Conquistadores took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pioneer Valley Panthers on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-1 defeat on April 4th.

The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16.

Matias Salguero paced Cabrillo's offense, picking up 20 kills. Salguero got some help from Cody Lawton and his 39 assists. Finally, Jake Brown kept Cabrillo's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

With the loss, Cabrillo broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-9. As for Pioneer Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-16 record this season.

Cabrillo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Paso Robles on the 6th. As for Pioneer Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Mission College Prep on the 1st.
