Softball Recap: Steele Takes a Loss

If Steele was riding high fresh off their 7-0 takedown of Strongsville on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Comets fell 5-0 to the Berea-Midpark Titans on Thursday. The Comets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Karina Shuster spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

Steele's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Berea-Midpark, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Steele and Berea-Midpark should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Comets (ranked 52nd) will meet Keystone (ranked 276th) at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Berea-Midpark will challenge Elyria at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (61 vs. 399).
