Baseball Game Preview: Cromwell Panthers vs. Middletown Blue Dragons

The Cromwell Panthers will challenge the Middletown Blue Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Middletown took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Cromwell, who comes in off a win.

It was a proper cat-fight when Cromwell duked it out with Old Lyme on Monday. The Panthers walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Wildcats. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

James Vinchetti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Cromwell is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Tyler Bonelli was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Owen Stafstrom was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Middletown was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Enfield, falling 9-1.

Middletown saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bobby Civitillo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Middletown's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Cromwell, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6-1.
