Softball Recap: Northeastern Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Northeastern ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the West Liberty-Salem Tigers 3-2. The Jets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Renna Kelly spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Laney Phillips was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

Northeastern's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for West Liberty-Salem, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Northeastern will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tigers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
