Recap: Evangelical Christian Sentinels vs. First Baptist Academy Lions
The Evangelical Christian Sentinels and the First Baptist Academy Lions squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Evangelical Christian Sentinels had to settle for second. Evangelical Christian was the victim of a tough 50-27 defeat at the hands of First Baptist Academy. Evangelical Christian has struggled against First Baptist Academy recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Evangelical Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is James (lj) blackwell 3rd. Despite the final result, he rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. (lj) blackwell 3rd's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards. Jack Shuker was in the mix as well, providing Evangelical Christian with two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Evangelical Christian's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Ethan Thomas was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Ethan Crossan was his usual excellent self, throwing for 394 yards and four touchdowns while completing 89.3% of his passes, and also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. Crossan hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for six straight games. Winston Watkins jr. also helped out as he racked up 100 receiving yards.
Evangelical Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for First Baptist Academy, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Evangelical Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. First Baptist Academy will be playing at home against Moore Haven at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Moore Haven will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 216th, while First Baptist Academy is ranked 84th).
